Biden, After 50 Years in D.C. Without Addressing Congressional Term Limits, Now Advocates for Supreme Court Term Limits
President Biden has announced a series of proposed reforms to the Supreme Court, aiming to restore public trust and ensure accountability. The plan includes implementing term limits for justices, a constitutional amendment to limit presidential immunity, and a binding code of ethics.
Biden's proposals mark a shift from his previous stance against altering the high court.
Under pressure from Democratic officials following a poorly received debate performance, Biden declared that Supreme Court reform would be a priority for the remainder of his term, opting not to seek re-election.
The proposed term limits for justices would necessitate a constitutional amendment, while Congress could establish an enforceable code of ethics. Additionally, Biden supports an amendment to limit immunity for presidents and certain officials, following a Supreme Court ruling that presidents cannot be prosecuted for official acts during their tenure.
Amending the Constitution requires a two-thirds majority in both the House and Senate and ratification by three-fourths of the states.
The specifics of Biden's proposal are still in development, with the White House yet to comment.
Critics argue that Biden and the Democrats are pushing these reforms primarily because they disagree with recent Supreme Court rulings.
They believe these changes are an attempt to undermine the independence of the judiciary and politicize the court, making it a central issue for the upcoming elections.
Furthermore, critics highlight the hypocrisy of Biden, who spent 50 years in Washington, D.C., without addressing term limits for Congress, now advocating for term limits for Supreme Court justices.
Biden said Supreme Court reform is "critical to our democracy" in an Oval Office address Wednesday explaining his decision to drop out of the 2024 election. He reiterated his commitment to lowering costs for families, growing the economy, defending personal freedoms, and combating issues like gun violence and climate change.
Biden's reform efforts reflect his broader mission to maintain the integrity of the judicial system and protect democratic values.

In May, the US polo team captain, Maggie Steffens, posted a request for financial assistance on Instagram. Flavor Flav, whose legal name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr, was prompted to take action.

A few weeks later, Flav signed a five-year sponsorship deal with the US women’s and men’s teams aimed to “elevate the visibility and excitement surrounding water polo in the United States."
The sponsorship includes personal appearances and also means a financial contribution (amount undisclosed) which will help with equipment, facilities and 'anything else they need.' He went on to say, "Niche sports often don't get the spotlight they deserve, but they are packed with incredible talent and heart. Together, we're going to make some serious waves!"
