Bipartisan Bill Would Ban Pelosi and all Members of Congress from Trading Stock

A bipartisan group of senators revealed a proposed bill on Wednesday aimed at banning stock trading by members of Congress, the president, and the vice president.

Leading this renewed initiative are Senators Gary Peters (D-Mich.), Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), and Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.). "Americans should be assured that their elected officials are prioritizing public interest over personal gain," stated Peters, chair of the Senate's Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, during a press conference in Washington.

He announced that the Senate panel would take an "historic step" to review the bill on July 24. This marks the first formal consideration of such legislation by Congress.

According to Merkley,  if enacted, the bill will "immediately" halt stock trading by members of Congress. Beginning in March 2027,  the prohibition would extend to lawmakers' spouses and dependent children.

Additionally, by 2027, the president, vice president, and all members of Congress would need to divest from specific investments. However, Hawley expressed uncertainty about securing sufficient support to pass the measure.

"Members of Congress should not profit from exclusive information," Hawley said on Capitol Hill. He argued there was no justification for legislators to benefit from privileged information unavailable to the public.

Experts highlight that access to non-public information provides members of Congress with an unfair investing advantage.

In 2022, Ossoff and Senator Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) introduced a similar bill to bar stock trading by Congress members while in office, a move followed by Hawley's introduction of his own bill.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) initially opposed such legislation, defending lawmakers' right to participate in the "free market economy." However, she eased up on her opposition after 27 House members—two Republicans and 25 Democrats— sent her and then-Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.)a letter urging a ban on stock trading by Congress members. 

Last September, former Rep. Stephen Buyer (R-Ind.) was sentenced to nearly two years in prison for securities fraud related to insider trading schemes, although these crimes occurred after he left Congress in 2011.

In 2012, former President Barack Obama signed the STOCK Act, formally prohibiting insider trading by Congress members.

By 2022, the Federal Reserve implemented rules to restrict certain investment and trading activities by Fed officials to uphold public confidence and prevent conflicts of interest. Joshua Graham Lynn, CEO of RepresentUs, a non-partisan anti-corruption group, praised the proposal as long overdue.

"With trust in government at an all-time low, it's crucial for Congress to demonstrate they serve the American people, not personal interests," Lynn said. "This development is a necessary and overdue step in the right direction, showing that bipartisanship can still achieve meaningful results."

Democrats Already Blaming a Harris Defeat in Presidential Election on Racism - Even Though Biden Still Their Candidate

You’d think such diabolical people would manage to put their resources to work and create some new ideas, but the Democrats can’t shake their love of the race card. They are so enamored with it, in fact, that they are already playing it to excuse what can only be a landslide loss if they do, in fact, put Kamala up as their new presidential candidate. 

Forget that Biden is still their current presidential candidate. Forget that Harris is among the least likable- if not the least likable Vice President of all time. Forget that she was openly acknowledged to have been selected for her color and gender in the first place, and, of course, forget that she’s as dumb as a bag of rocks. 

All the Democrats have to run on, besides their rabid passion for abortion, and maniacal hatred for Trump, is racism. Sling that mud as far and wide as you can, they believe, and maybe they will somehow cover up their own disastrous policies and outrageous behavior.

Talking Heads and media sites are already attempting to blame a predicted red wave on the fact that the Vice President is black, and Republicans are so racist and sexist that she’ll never beat Trump if she is inserted into Biden’s place. 

“Knowing what we know about Fox News, Trump, the Republican Party, and even members of the Democratic Party who are envious of Harris’ position, we must prepare ourselves for the even more racist and sexist barking we’re about to hear, directed not only at her but at the very idea that somebody who looks like her could ever be qualified to lead.” - That there is right out of an opinion piece on Yahoo News. 

And plenty of other Leftist politicians and “news” outlets are echoing that sentiment. 

Meantime, Biden himself is arguably among the most vocally racist person to have ever been elected president, and the Democrats have made a practice of insisting people of color are somehow too poor or dumb to even get an ID, or use the internet. 

It’s going to be an interesting few months between now and the next election. And, God willing, come January this country will have one more chance to begin the monumental task of restoring integrity to America. This country has deviated so far off course in the past decades that it will take several generations to repair. Maybe it will never be repaired fully. Time will tell, but Americans are ready to take their country back- for Americans of every color.
