Some people learn grace and obtain courage through time, and some seem to just be born with both.
Ellee Large was just 6 years old when she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Surrounded by family and friends, the little girl embarked on a fight for her life.
Along the way, she and her family became close to other young warriors and their families. Faced with the ever-present stress of a deadly disease, Ellee had an idea; She decided to flip the tables on her pain and band her new extended family together to give it a purpose.
Together with family and friends, Ellee launched a lemonade stand to raise money for St Judes. It was her way of giving back to the hospital that was doing so much for her. They raised $7400.
Perhaps it was the medical care. Perhaps it was Elle’s own will. Perhaps it was a greater power shining down on her. Or perhaps it was all three things that led to the news that Elle is now cancer free.
Ellee’s mother, Shauna Large, posted on her Facebook profile saying:
“Thankful and blessed……but really too many emotions to put into words right now. We got the call earlier today, but waited to share the news with everyone until Ellee could call and tell Hudson first. The sweetest words my ears have heard!! MRD negative!! (no cancer) God is so good and to Him we give all glory and praise for Ellee’s health!! God has blessed us with supportive family and friends and access to the best hospital in the world for our Ellee bean. We are so grateful for St. Jude and the care she has received both here in Memphis and at our home affiliate in Johnson City. We are beyond thankful and my heart is so full!”
Ellee is an excellent example of what all of us are capable of.
No matter how old, or young, or healthy or ill, we all have the ability to flip our pain into purpose, and add value to others.
